Your Wedding is Your Wedding and No One Else!

After attending some weddings or even viewing some on TV I’m sure you’re aware of the basic elements that make up a wedding but you are probably searching for ways to make your wedding as unique as yourself and husband-to-be.

Looking outside the box at other cultures and traditions is a great place to start.

    Read on and get inspired!

    Something Old

The Celtic Hand-fasting Ceremony is an ancient Celtic tradition of binding the hands of the bridal couple together with a cord or rope in a knot in the shape of infinity.  You make promises to each other which will ‘bind’ you in purpose and commitment in marriage.  This is where the terms ‘giving ones hand in marriage' and ‘tying the knot' comes from.

    Something Different

You may also look to popular traditions and add your own spin. I’m sure you’re familiar with the unity candle and/or sand ceremony. Instead of candles or sand have you considered using marbles or rose petals for a little twist on tradition? Glamour Goddess Tip: If you are intending to keep the petals than use silk petals instead of real ones.

    Love Letter Ceremony

For the Love Letter Ceremony the bride and the groom write personal letters to each other and then seal them without the other reading the letter written to them. At your ceremony your officiant speaks of the importance of daily expressions of love the bridal couple need to give each other. As a couple you may choose when you want to open those letters and read them. It can be the night of your wedding, your one year anniversary or on your 20th! You decide. It can even be when your first child is born!

    Memory Box

memory boxAs you were being courted by your now husband-to-be I am sure you collected and kept some items over the course of that courtship that had some special meaning to you. These can be tickets to your first movie together, a picture of the two of you on a special trip, or even a napkin you used to wipe the ketchup off his face for the first time! You can take these memories and place them in a box that you seal up. As a couple you may choose when you want to open that box and reminisce about the experiences you shared when you were falling in love. It can be the night of your wedding, your one year anniversary or on your 20th! You decide. It can even be when your first child is born or when she graduates from high school! Talk about a time capsule!

    Candle Ceremony

candle ceremony ideaThis is not the unity candle! I like to find ways that your guests can get involved on your wedding day and one idea that I love is having your guests carry taper candles into the ceremony. They  hold on to them throughout the ceremony so everytime you look out at your guests you see a collective glow of beautiful candle light from people who love and support you. Another option is to have your guests carry in votives up to a special table (or two depending on your guest count) and they get to light their candle and place it on the special table or love altar. On that table or altar you can have a picture of the two of you and a beautiful frame. It is such a breath taking sight to see a table full of candles all lit for you by your family and friends!

Hopefully the above ideas will help get your creative juices flowing!

    Whatever happened to throwing rice?

    The age old cliché.

When little girls would dream of their fairytale wedding, they would envision the best day of their lives surrounded by family and friends lovingly tossing rice into their blissful faces as they make their getaway.

But in this day and age of weddings no rice will be found unless it comes with the chicken dinner!

More and more brides seem to be shying away from the traditional rice throwing when they finally become that blushing bride planning her fantasy wedding. In fact I’ve seen some pretty unique replacements like rose petals being tossed or beautiful streamers in a multitude of colors being waved as the newlyweds grace down the aisle for the recessional. No more waiting for the getaway at end of the evening! And there is my favorite…sparklers! It makes for beautiful pictures for the evening weddings!

Yet, there is another alternative… no send-off at all! Some bridal couples have been opting to pull a Houdini and just sneak out the back door at the end of the night!

A lot of this has to do with brides wanting their weddings to be different their friends. Everyone is coming up with new and unique ways for their guests to shower them with love. And I love that there are so many unique crafting supplies available these days and how-to websites with step-by-step instructions that will allow you to make your wildest idea come true.

What are your thoughts and which would you prefer? To be showered by love after the vows? Or as you make your exit from the big party? Share your opinion with us on our facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Events-in-a-Box-NC/118314448002.

    Sincerely,
